Donald Glover just released a new single from his "final" album as Childish Gambino.
On Tuesday, July 2, the rapper-actor went in a completely different direction for his latest track "Lithonia." The pop-rock track — produced by Glover, Max Martin, Ludwig Göransson and Michael Uzowuru — has him crooning over high-pitch synths, vintage guitar riffs, and powerful piano chords. The song is named after Lithonia, Ga., which is the setting of his FX series "Atlanta." The song officially debuted in a new trailer for his upcoming film Bando Stone & The New World and will appear on the official soundtrack.
Glover formally released the trailer during the BET Awards 2024 after it premiered in theaters last weekend. Right before the trailer played, Glover presented Killer Mike with the award for "Album of the Year." In the moments leading up to Mike's win, Glover namedropped Will Smith as he cracked jokes about his lack of awards from BET and the Recording Academy. The Bad Boys actor appeared to enjoy Glover's jokes. He posted a video of himself laughing at Glover's rant backstage after he performed his new song "You Can Make It" with the Sunday Service Choir and Kirk Franklin.
“I have more Grammys than *Will Smith*, which makes no sense. But I have the same amount of BET Awards as Sam Smith,” Glover said. “Does that make sense to you guys? Me and Sam Smith are neck and neck at the Black Entertainment Television [Awards]... If I have to, like, do, I dunno, Baby Boy or something, just let me know. I’ll have Jonathan Majors put me in a headlock and shave my head. I’ll do it!”
The soundtrack for Bando Stone & The New World is reportedly Glover's last album as Childish Gambino. Look out for the album and his next film available July 19. Listen to "Lithonia" below.
