Brandy and Monica are finally joining forces for a massive tour 27 years after they took over the world with their hit duet "The Boy Is Mine."
The R&B artists announced their plans for "The Boy Is Mine Tour" during a joint interview with "CBS Mornings" on Tuesday, June 24. Brandy and Monica will bring special guests Kelly Rowland, Muni Long and Jamal Roberts with them to arenas in 24 cities this fall, beginning in Cincinnati on October 16. The tour will hit other major cities, including Atlanta, Chicago, Memphis, Las Vegas and Los Angeles until they wrap up in Houston on December 7.
"They were trying to get us to do a tour since '98 and it just finally felt like the right time," Brandy said. "It was a dream come true."
"We created the communication and the relationship to do it," Monica said. "It's a musical marriage. When you start to go on a tour, especially of this caliber, we have to talk about everything."
Brandy and Monica first dominated the charts with "The Boy Is Mine" after they dropped the Darkchild and Dallas Austin-produced song in 1998. Their duet spent 13 consecutive weeks at the top of Billboard's Hot 100 chart. The song became a R&B mainstay over the years. Yet, the hype of the record was rejuvenated last year after Ariana Grande released her version of "The Boy Is Mine" and recruited both singers for the remix. Of course, fans will get to see Brandy and Monica perform the timeless classic, but they'll also get two hours full of hits from their respective catalogs.
"That part is hard," Monica said. "We want to give them everything that they want, but we can't keep you there all night. So we have to figure out a way to condense this into two hours of just a celebration of music, celebration of womanhood."
