Iconic local bar "The Churchward Pub" located in downtown Alameda is closing its doors. Part owner, Joe Churchward announced on his FaceBook that the Churchward will not be reopening as he shared the following message:
Lisa and I met with our landlord this week and after a last ditch effort to acquire the building from him was unsuccessful we have unfortunately made the difficult decision to close The Churchward Pub. We would like to thank our amazing hardworking employees who have given so much to the bar, Lisa and I appreciate you guys so much. We also want to thank our loyal customers, without you guys The Churchward pub would not be what it is, you will all be missed. It is so hard to say goodbye to a business that we have put our lives into for the past 12 years. It wasn’t always easy but I believe we made a difference in Alameda as well as the whole East Bay. We will cherish every memory but this is definitely not the end. We look forward to the future, cause as they say, The comeback is greater than the setback. Thank you everyone.
